VANCOUVER — The Calgary Stampeders clinched their spot in the playoffs as they earned a 25-11 win over the division rival BC Lions on Saturday. With the win from Vancouver the Stamps also avoided being swept in the season-series and earned their first victory over the Orange and Black this season.
MONTREAL — The Montreal Alouettes moved one game away from first place in the East Division with a 23-16 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Als quarterback Trevor Harris was able to find the end zone twice in the second half including the game winning score to receiver Eugene Lewis.
Twice this season the BC Lions have gone into McMahon Stadium in Calgary and left victorious, albeit under very different circumstances. The first matchup was all about the clash of the student and the teacher as Bo Levi Mitchell did his best to hold off Nathan Rourke’s late game surge of brilliance to no avail.
TORONTO — The Toronto Argonauts have signed National offensive lineman Ryan Hunter, the team announced on Friday. Hunter, 27, was originally drafted by the Argos with the ninth pick of the 2018 CFL Draft but signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent that same month.
BC Lions running back James Butler doesn’t mind taking on more of an old school role within the team’s offence. The Lions are built around a lethal passing attack, one that leads the CFL in points per game and has also placed three of their wideouts among the league’s top 10 statistical leaders.
